Either the Reds are sandbagging for the regular season Ohio Cup or the Cleveland Indians have their number.
In the the Cactus League finale the Indians are 5-0 coming into today and lead 5-2 after five innings.
Homer Bailey, who will make the opening day roster for the first time, gave up a two-run, first inning home run to Lonnie Chisenhall.
The Reds tied it with RBI singles by Brandon Phillips and Ramon Hernandez.
Catcher Mike Redmond hit a three-run double when Bailey misplaced his control in the fourth inning. He walked Jhonny Peralta allowed a two-out single to Matt LaPorta and hit luis Valbuena in the right hand to load the bases. Valbuena had to leave the game.
Bailey is pitching into the sixth inning for the first time this spring.
Bailey is looking forward to going to Cincinnati
"It's the first time I can say I'm ready to go to Cincinnati. There's not a lot to do in the desert. I had a so-so spring but it was good to get a lot of work in. I saw some positives and some negatives but they'll be ironed out."
Logan Ondrusek was not scored on in 10 innings.
He made the team as a long shot.
"He came up through the organization last year and dominated at every level. He is a real pro for someone who doesn't have a lot of experience."
"It is a dream come true," Ondrusek said. "Ever since I started playing ball when I was young it was a dream to be in the big leagues. Now its reality."
The Reds trailed by three in the 9th inning but minor leaguer Denis Phipps hit a two-run home run. After Ryan Hanigan walked minor leaguer Alex Bucholz fought off some pitches and tied the game with a triple. That's where the game endec.
"We came out pretty much unscathed which is what you want. It was a heck of a game today. That kid (Alex) Bucholz that was the at bat of the spring right there. You like to see a young kid come up and battle.and battle and battle like that. That was worth its weight in gold. Now that's time to do the real thing," Dusty Baker said to cap off the camp.
